With automakers concentrating on integrating as many properties as probable in the center console area, the quantity of 6 passenger vehicles being manufactured has declined over the years. The front bench seating needed to accommodate three individuals has been exchanged for separate front seats with the gear shift and parking brake placed in-between.
But all is just not lost. Though not as common as they once used to be, there are still a couple of full sized automobiles on the market with bench seating for that extra passenger. The Lincoln Town Car is, maybe, the nearly all well known of the bunch. A long preferred of older drivers, the town Car has a movable center console which can be flipped up to offer more room.
One of Ford's flagship cars, the Crown Victoria, also gives seating for six individuals. Since its inception in 1955, the Crown Victoria has been an American favourite. Its rugged construction and durability has brought about it to become the number 1 selection for police and taxi fleets across the country.
As one of the last traditional full-size vehicles, the Mercury Grand Marquis still has the two armrests in the middle that can be adjusted to make space for a 6 passenger SUV. It even has a foot rest where they can site their feet so that they are not disturbing the comfort of the driver or other passenger.
And on the subject of deciding exactly who gets to sit in that middle front seat, drawing straws has continually proved to be an powerful decision making procedure for centuries.
