Rifle Scopes - Do They have To Be High End
De MobileCells
Years ago I 1st heard the phrase "gun snob". This is an individual that will look down his nose if your weapon doesn't live up to what he has decided is a "proper" firearm. It may be that it isn't the correct brand, is too inexpensive to be any good, or maybe the wood isn't fine sufficient to be worthy of consideration by those of the upper crust. The same sort of individual exists where telescopic sights are concerned, the "scope snob".
Really frankly, I have little use for this style of individual. As no one appreciates a fine hand crafted firearm more so than I, not everyone can afford one. The fact of the matter is which you can take just as numerous head of game with an inexpensive arm as with a costly one, and have just as much fun doing it!
Pretty much very much the same thing could possibly be stated for rifle scopes. Yes a super-duper high- dollar scope is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold, but that does not mean you can not get the job done with an inexpensive one.
Now, some can say the just way to go is to get a Leupold, Burris, etc. and that they are a better item than quite a few of the less pricey brands, but better how, and at what amount? What are you paying out for when you purchase a high end optic? Mostly you're paying out for added light collecting ability which is just noticeable in the very first few mins of daylight, or the last few at dusk. You need to ask yourself if it makes sense to pay lots of times the price only for those few extra mins. If it does, well then why not get a Swarovski? It's supposedly brighter in low light than the others, but then again at what cost? You see, it's all relative. You soon reach the point of decreasing returns. You have to pay much more to gain relatively little.
I own both Leupold and Burris scopes and they are fine pieces of equipment indeed. I also own low end scopes. No, they aren't as bright and not very as clear under certain conditions, but they still allow me to bag just as much game and at a much lower cost. Would I take a low end scope on an expensive once-in-a-lifetime hunt? No, I would not, yet for almost all individuals I dare say a Cadillac is nice, yet a Ford or Chevy will still get you in which you wish to go. There is a place for them all. Bear in mind, it's the thrill of the hunt that genuinely matters!
